Biography

Dr. Fei Wang is an Assistant Professor at the Department of Mining, Metallurgy, and Materials Engineering and the Director of the Laboratory of Sustainable Minerals Engineering and Decarbonation (SMED) at Laval University. Dr. Wang is also a Professional Engineer of British Columbia with practice areas in carbon mineralization, hydrometallurgy, and minerals engineering since 2020.

Before joining Laval University, Dr. Wang was a Postdoctoral Fellow at the University of British Columbia (UBC) from 2019 to 2022 and obtained his Ph.D. degree from UBC in 2019. Dr. Wang’s work has focused on research and development (R&D) in CO2 mineralization and utilization in hydrometallurgy for enhanced critical metals (nickel and cobalt) recovery and carbon neutrality. From 2014 to 2016, Dr. Wang has worked as an Engineering Manager for Sicomines Sarl in D.R. Congo for copper and cobalt recovery from a Katanga mine, including open-pit mining, mineral processing, and hydrometallurgy.

Dr. Wang’s current research focuses on CO2 mineralization and utilization, hydrometallurgical extraction of critical metals, recycling recovery of battery residues, comprehensive utilization of mineral resources and waste materials, separation and purification, with respect to the global clean energy transition.
